District Charge Policy
Axtell I.S.D.
The intent of this policy is to establish a process to handle situations when children eligible for reduced-price or full-price meal benefits have sufficient funds to pay for school meals as well as the collection of unpaid meal charges and delinquent account debt.
Meal Charge Policy
- Students will be allowed to charge up to ten meals.
- Students who qualify for free meals will not be denied a reimbursable meal even if they have accrued a negative balance.
- Students are not allowed to charge second meals, a la carte or snack bar items.
Notifying Parents of Low or Negative Balances in Student Cafeteria Account:
-The written charge policy will be communicated to the household via the district website.
- The written meal charge policy will be communicated to all appropriate district staff prior to the first day of school.
-Parents/Guardians are responsible for meal payment to the Child Nutrition Program. Notices of low or deficit balances will be sent home as deemed necessary.
Collection of Delinquent Meal Charge Debt:
- Efforts to collect delinquent debt will be made prior to conversion to bad debt by at least one of the following methods:
a. Letter home to household
b. Phone call
c. Email.
Other information:
● Parents/Guardians may pay for meals in advance using www.myschoolbucks.com, cash or check, made payable to Axtell ISD.
● Any remaining funds on a student’s account will be carried over to the next school year.
● Parents/guardians must complete a request for meal money refund if their student is graduating or moving. This form can be obtained from the campus cafeteria manager.
● If a student is without meal money on a consistent basis, the campus principal will investigate the situation more closely and take further action as needed. Parents/guardians are encouraged to apply for free and reduced-price meals for their child or children at any time of the year.
